INSPIRATION

Freespace describes a generosity of spirit and a sense of humanity at the core of architecture's agenda, focusing on the quality of space itself. Freespace focuses on architecture’s ability to provide free and additional spatial gifts to those who use it and on its ability to address the unspoken wishes of strangers.

Freespace celebrates architecture’s capacity to find additional and unexpected generosity in each project - even within the most private, defensive, exclusive or commercially restricted conditions.

Freespace encourages reviewing ways of thinking, new ways of seeing the world, of inventing solutions where architecture provides for the well being and dignity of each citizen of this fragile planet.

Freespace can be a space for opportunity, a democratic space, un-programmed and free for uses not yet conceived. There is an exchange between people and buildings that happens, even if not intended or designed, so buildings themselves find ways of sharing and engaging with people over time, long after the architect has left the scene. Architecture has an active as well as a passive life.

Creativity week “Radi!2018” (Create!2018) invites entrepreneurs, teenagers, governmental and non-governmental sector employees and others to participate in the workshop “From creative ecosystem to creative region”. The aim is to develop the skillset that will help to create new innovations in creative and entrepreneurship industry, as it is easier to innovate in environment that supports innovation. One of the solution could be the development of creative hubs and partnerships between municipality and citizens. This would create added value to the city and creative entrepreneurs and activists a place to meet and grow.

This year creative development week “Radi!2018” will include many regional seminars that will be led by experts from other countries. These seminars will help to overcome many challanges in the region of Liepaja and Klaipeda and also give the opportunity to help shaping the environment around you.
Based on the ideas and projects of the participants we aim to find a solution and innovative ideas that could be implemented in our society. The aim of the seminar is to introduce the way how design thinking works, how to successfully lead projects by attracting audience and taking in consideration the needs of society.

Just living is not enough... one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower /Hans Christian Andersen/

By loving the environment around you, you don’t just love the view. You love the feeling your space provides and to celebrate the feeling we’re welcoming you to take part in our Creative Freespace. Liepaja event! This event will take place in June, 2018, in Liepaja, when the city is blooming with flowers, sun and positive feelings. The main agenda is to gain experience and fresh idejas for creating a creative freespace, in the context of Liepaja. Within the 5 days participants will have the chance to listen to the pioneers of Freespace creators and also work in groups to brainstorm new and innovative ideas. Main speakers include Ieva Zibarte (Architect, publicist, Latvian National Library exhibitions’ curator), Viesturs Celmiņš (Social Anthropologist) and Ragnar Siil (Founder, Managing partnera t Creaticity Lab). By the time this event will come to an end Freespace will already be mapped in the city of Liepaja and 3 solutions for creative Freespace in Liepaja will be developed.
